PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To carry out separation without applying mechanical and electric shocks when specific objective cells are separated from a suspension containing the specific objective cells.;SOLUTION: An apparatus for separating the cells includes a substrate for recovering the cells in which a plurality of bowl-like recessed parts are provided in the surface on one side. The substrate for recovering the cells is provided with through-holes passing from the bottom of the bowl-like recessed parts toward the back surface on the other side of a plate member, and having a smaller diameter than that of the bowl-like recessed parts. A heater element is provided for each through-hole near an opening in the back surface of the through-holes in the substrate for recovering the cells. The apparatus for separating the cells further has a heater control part for independently driving each of the heater elements. A hydrophobic treated surface is provided in at least a part on the periphery of the bowl-like recessed parts on the surface of the substrate for recovering the cells.
