Stimulation of the facial nerve system (e.g., electrical, electromagnetic, etc.) in patients with stroke causes expansion of the clogged arteries and expansion of the surrounding arteries, allowing blood flow to overcome obstruction and reach previously unavailable tissue. The device acts on the facial nerve and its branches in the ear. In use, the device can be inserted into the ear canal or placed near the ear to stimulate the facial nerve system without puncture the eardrum. The device can also be inserted into the middle ear through a puncture made in the eardrum. After this, direct stimulation of the branches of the facial nerve in the middle ear is possible. The device can be used for emergency treatment of acute stroke or as a permanently implanted / injected option to constantly maintain blood flow to the brain and prevent stroke.
