The pharmaceutical composition for oral administration contains at least one phosphodiesterase inhibitor and at least one sugar alcohol selected from mannitol, sorbitol, xylitol, maltitol, lactitol, erythritol, threitol and isomalt, and sodium bicarbonate as pharmaceutical excipients in the following mass fractions: phosphodiesterase inhibitor - from about 10 to about 150 wt.d. in total; sugar alcohol - from about 50 to about 600 wt.d. in total, sodium bicarbonate from about 2 to about 100 wt.d. The above composition with an accelerated onset of action for use in a method for treating erectile dysfunction in men is also disclosed.
