Systems and methods are provided optimally placing and configuringvideo surveillance cameras in a video management system. Methods includeproviding a diagram of a facility to be monitored, control circuitryidentifying aplurality of areas on the diagram of the facility, control circuitrydetermining athree-dimensional volume for each of the plurality of identified areas,controlcircuitry determining a placement for each of a plurality of data collectiondevices in respective ones of the plurality of identified areas, and controlcircuitry determining a configuration for each of the plurality of datacollectiondevices.
