Disclosed are a service mode switching method and device, and an Internet protocol television (IPTV) terminal. The method includes: an IPTV terminal determines the service mode corresponding to an IPTV remote controller when receiving an operation instruction sent by the IPTV remote controller; judges whether or not the currently working service mode thereof is consistent with the service mode corresponding to the IPTV remote controller; and if they are inconsistent, then it switches the currently working service mode thereof to the service mode corresponding to the IPTV remote controller; and provides the corresponding IPTV service in the switched service mode. By way of the present invention, the service mode can be switched between the ordinary service mode and the simplified service mode according to user demands, effectively improving the flexibility for the IPTV terminal to provide an IPTV service to the user.
