The invention relates to nanoparticles, characterized by a) a core consisting of an inorganic material and b) a shell consisting of a linker and dendritic polyglycerol sulfate, wherein the polyglycerol sulfate consists of repeated glycerol units of formula (RO-CH2)2CH-OR, where R = H or other glycerol units, and one or more OH groups of the glycerol units are replaced by sulfate groups of formula -OSO3X, where X is equal to H, by an alkali metal atom, such as Li, Na or K, or by an ammonium ion, and wherein the linker links the polyglycerol sulfate and the core to each other. The nanoparticles are suitable for medical uses, for example, for the diagnosis and treatment of inflammatory diseases.
