In the present invention, without introducing a complicated ad-hoc network system, the transmission/reception signals of a mobile station device are relayed using a communication protocol and a wireless access method stipulated by the current state LTE standard. In a wireless relay communication system comprising a base station device (12a), a mobile station device (10a), and a wireless station device (11a), the wireless station device (11a) receives a mode switching control signal for switching the mode to either a mobile station device mode in which the wireless station device performs communication with the base station device (12a) on behalf of one mobile station device (10a), or a relay station device mode in which the wireless station device relays communication between the base station device (12a) and the mobile station device (10a). In a case where an instruction is made by the mode switching control signal to switch to the mobile station device mode, the wireless station device performs communication with the base station device (12a) on behalf of one mobile station device (10a). In a case where an instruction is made by the mode switching control signal to switch to the relay station device mode, the wireless station device relays communication between the base station device (12a) and the mobile station device (10a).
