A vehicle brake system (200;300;400;500;600) including a wheel brake (126;131;141;146), a brake pedal (105), a master cylinder (110), a first valve (160), a second valve (165), a pump (170), a pressure sensor (115), a pressure controlling device (205;405), and a controller (ECU;185). The master cylinder (110) increases a pressure of a brake fluid in the brake system (100) based on a user depressing the brake pedal (105). The first and second valves (160;165) have an open position in which the brake fluid flows through the valve and a closed position where the fluid is prevented from flowing through the valve. The pump (170) pumps the fluid through the first valve (160) to the wheel brake (126;131;141;146), and draws the fluid from the wheel brake (126;131;141;146) through the second valve (165). The pressure sensor (115) senses a pressure of the brake fluid. The controller (ECU;185) operates the valves (160;165), the pump (170), and the pressure controlling device (205;405) during a controlled braking event (ABS,VSC). The pressure controlling device (205;405) reduces a pressure of the brake fluid at the master cylinder (110) and thereby the pressure oscillations of the brake pedal (105).
