Providing dispersion fibers having covalently bound ionically charged groups, comprises (i) producing one or two aqueous dispersions of polymer particles having covalently bonded ionic groups, where the one or two dispersions comprise primary dispersions of anionic polymer particles, primary dispersions of cationic polymer particles, secondary dispersions of anionic polymer particles, and secondary dispersions of cationic polymer particles, (ii) mixing one or two aqueous dispersions with water and a water-soluble polymer, and (iii) electro-spinning the aqueous mixture. Providing dispersion fibers having covalently bound ionically charged groups, comprises (i) producing one or two aqueous dispersions of polymer particles having covalently bonded ionic groups and diameter of = 200 nm, where the one or two dispersions comprise primary dispersions of anionic polymer particles, primary dispersions of cationic polymer particles, secondary dispersions of anionic polymer particles, and secondary dispersions of cationic polymer particles, and the dispersion comprises anionic and the other cationic particles, when two dispersions are produced, (ii) mixing one or two aqueous dispersions from step (i) with water and a water-soluble polymer, where the mixture comprises 5-60 wt.% polymer particles and 0.5-25 wt.% water-soluble polymer, and (iii) electro-spinning the aqueous mixture from step (ii), where the mixture containing cationic particles and the mixture containing anionic particles are electrospun using parallel electrospinning via two separate cannulas, when two mixtures are produced, which comprise oppositely charged polymer particles. An independent claim is also included for the dispersion fibers having covalently bound ionically charged groups, which are obtainable by the above method.
