The present invention relates to pharmaceutical compositions for the treatment or prophylaxis of type 2 diabetes, including novel combinations of piperazine dithioctate and glymepiride. The pharmaceutical composition according to the present invention has not only an effect of improving blood glucose by using piperazine dithioctate and glymepiride together, but also an effect of improving metabolic disorders and insulin resistance of diabetic patients, in particular piperazine dithioctate. And glymepireide alone or in combination with thioclate and glymepireide, the glucose transport in the cell is significantly increased, showing a strong synergistic effect in the treatment of type 2 diabetes.
