PURPOSE: A vehicle navigation device and a method are provided to contribute to the vitalization of preference and avoidance options by searching an optimal route and enable provides the preference and avoidance options with respect to highways, ferryboats, and tunnels.;CONSTITUTION: A vehicle navigation device(1) is composed of a database and a processing unit(2). The database is composed of object data units. The object data units include information for a 3D display of individual objects. One or more object data units include an adjustable height parameter for adjusting the individual objects. The processing unit displays the objects on a basis of the corresponding object data unit and the adjustable height parameter of the corresponding object data unit.
