PURPOSE: A capsosiphon fulvescens glycoprotein extract with a liver protection effect and a composition containing the same are provided to suppress liver damage or liver diseases caused by acetaminophen or tetrachloride. CONSTITUTION: A capsosiphon fulvescens glycoprotein extract protects liver damaged by acetaminophen or tetrachloride. A pharmaceutical composition for preventing or treating liver diseases caused by the acetaminophen or the tetrachloride contains the extract as an active ingredient. A health food composition for treating the liver diseases caused by the acetaminophen or the tetrachloride contains the extract as the active ingredient. The extract is prepared using C1-C4 anhydrous or hydrous alcohols, a mixture of the alcohols and water, acetone, ethyl acetate, chloroform, 1,3-butylene glycol, hexane, diethyl ether, butyl acetate, or water.
