PURPOSE: An engine control method for preventing an engine stall of an auto transmission vehicle on a steep slope is provided to control the engine RPM(Revolutions Per Minute) when driving the vehicle not on a downhill road but on an uphill road, thereby efficiently controlling the engine RPM.;CONSTITUTION: An engine control method for preventing an engine stall of an auto transmission vehicle on a steep slope includes: a step(S100) of measuring the output RPM(Revolutions Per Minute) of a torque converter and engine RPM; a step(S200) of computing a torque factor due to an RPM ratio from comparison between the measured output RPM and the engine RPM; a step(S300) of computing the torque loss of the torque converter based on the computed torque factor; and a step(S400) of controlling the engine RPM or torque in response to the computed torque loss.;COPYRIGHT KIPO 2013;[Reference numerals] (S100) Step of measuring the output rpm of a torque converter and the rpm of an engine; (S200) Step of computing a torque factor due to an rpm ratio from comparison between the measured output rpm and engine rpm; (S300) Step of computing the torque loss of the torque converter based on the computed torque factor; (S400) Step of controlling the engine rpm according to the computed torque loss
