PURPOSE: A device for compensating for battery power in a portable terminal and a method thereof are provided to compensate battery power for colors without using a dedicated gauge integrated circuit.;CONSTITUTION: A display unit(105) includes an AMOLED(Active Matrix Organic Light-Emitting Diode) displaying an image. The display unit calculates the color rate of the image. A battery(109) outputs a current battery voltage value in a predetermined period. When the image is displayed, a control unit(101) receives the current battery voltage value and the color rate of the image. The control unit compensates the battery voltage value by using the color rate of the image and the voltage value of the current battery.
