PURPOSE: An apparatus for improving starting performance and detecting low volatile fuel by leaning ignition timing is provided to calculate a compensation factor according to information form a knock sensor to detect low volatile fuel. CONSTITUTION: An apparatus for improving starting performance and detecting low volatile fuel by leaning ignition timing comprises a knock sensor(10), an engine control unit(20), and a standard value storing unit(30). The knock sensor senses knocking in an engine. The engine control unit controls the operation of the engine on the basis of information generated from the knock sensor. The standard value storing unit stores standard data to determine whether or not fuel is low volatile fuel on the basis of a learning value. The engine control unit determines whether or not the fuel is low volatile fuel according to the comparison result to the standard value on the basis of information from the knock sensor.
