PURPOSE: A pharmaceutical composition containing 4-(5-(4-nitrophenyl)-1,2,4-oxadiazol-3-yl)-1,2,5-oxadiazol-3-amine for preventing and treating neurodegenerative diseases is provided to specifically suppress S1 pocket of GFP II and to prevent and treat Alzheimer's disease. CONSTITUTION: A pharmaceutical composition for preventing and treating Alzheimer' diseases, Parkinson' disease, amylotrophic lateral scelerosis(ALS), or dementia contains 4-(5-(4-nitrophenyl)-1,2,4-oxadiazol-3-yl)-1,2,5-oxadiazol-3-amine of chemical formula 1 or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof as an active ingredient. The compound of chemical formula 1 specifically suppresses a S1 pocket of GCP II(Glutamate Carboxypeptidase II). The compound of chemical formula 1 maintains homeostasis of intracellular amyloid beta(A beta).
