PURPOSE: A battery charging apparatus for adaptively changing a charging voltage and a battery charging control method thereof are provided to reduce unnecessary energy consumption due to a cell balancing by controlling a charging voltage based on the number of selected battery cells. CONSTITUTION: A PCS(Power Conversion System)(110) supplies charging power for charging battery cells in a battery pack(130). A switching unit(120) switches an electrical connection between the PCS and the battery cells. A BMS(Battery Management System)(140) performs a separate charging process based on the charging state of the battery cells and includes a cell voltage measuring unit(141), a central control unit(142), a switching control unit(143), and a communication unit(144). The central control unit selects the battery cells to be charged based on the voltages of the battery cells measured by the cell voltage measuring unit.
