PURPOSE: An air quality monitoring apparatus and a monitoring method using the same are provided to monitor atmosphere in a certain region and to find out a sight distance. CONSTITUTION: An air quality monitoring apparatus comprises a flat light source unit, one or more image detectors, a control unit, a database, an image comparing unit, and a discernment unit. The image detector photographs the flat light source unit from a certain site which is spatially separated from the flat light source unit. The flat light source unit has a light shielding box(13a). The image comparing unit compares standard image information with measured image information. The control unit controls the image detectors and LCD monitors of the flat light source unit.
