PURPOSE: A vending machine for the sale and the collection of a nickel metal hydride secondary battery capable of merchandizing the charging of the nickel metal hydride secondary battery is provided to promote the active use of a nickel metal hydride secondary battery instead of a disposable battery. CONSTITUTION: A secondary battery collection box(9) installed inside a vending machine case(2) selectively collects nickel metal hydride secondary batteries corresponding to a standard battery among inserted batteries. A battery ejection box(8) installed inside the vending machine case ejects outside the inserted batteries which do not correspond to the standard battery. An ejection path selecting unit(30) selectively opens a passage to the secondary battery collection box if the inserted batteries are standard batteries and selectively opens a passage to the battery ejection box if the inserted batteries are not standard batteries. A control unit(11) controls the operation of a standard battery test unit(250) and the ejection path selecting unit.
