PURPOSE: A method for connecting an instant message to an online document and a portable terminal thereof are provided to offer various online documents by connecting the target words included in a speech balloon including an instant message of a chatting window. CONSTITUTION: A processor(630) determines whether predetermined words are included in an instant message transmitted by an instant message transmitter. The processor selects a link from one or more candidate links. The processor determines whether the instant message transmitted by the instant message transmitter is generated or transmitted by an instant message receiver.
