PURPOSE: A method for calibrating an external parameter of a portable terminal with a camera and a system thereof are provided to enable a user to conveniently calibrate the external parameter of the portable terminal with the camera in a vehicle. CONSTITUTION: A portable terminal displays a reference mounting line on a screen with a front image of a vehicle which is photographed by a camera(S430). After the portable terminal is mounted on the vehicle corresponding to the reference mounting line, the portable terminal receives two or more points of both lanes of a vehicle road from the front image of the vehicle(S450). The portable terminal obtains an external parameter through repeated calculation(S460).
