PURPOSE: A water pipe freezing prevention device and a method thereof are provided to prevent freezing by detecting the temperature of water in a water pipe and discharging a predetermined amount of the water in the water pipe before the water is frozen.;CONSTITUTION: A water pipe freezing prevention device comprises a temperature detecting sensor (12), a valve (13), and a control unit (14). The temperature detecting sensor detects the temperature of water in a water pipe. The control unit determines the start of freezing in the water pipe according to the detected temperature of the water. The control unit controls the valve to be opened when the freezing is determined. After the valve is opened, the temperature of the water is detected in the predetermined opening time.
