摘要

The acoustic background noise in the vicinity of the exit point of an electrical power plant cooling water discharge pipe has been measured with a portable sound level meter. The noise levels in five frequency bands from 28to 9000Hz were recorded for several locations and compared with some recent oceanic shallow water ambient noise data. Up to approximately 500Hz,the background noise level near the exit point does not differ greatly from the oceanic shallow water noise level. Beyond 500Hz,the noise level near the exit point remains relatively constant and higher than oceanic levels. These higher levels have been attributed to the presence of snapping shrimp. (Author)
