FIELD: medicine.;SUBSTANCE: invention describes a method for prediction of the severity of a bronchopulmonary pathology with underlying gastroesophageal reflux in newborn infants assisted by artificial pulmonary ventilation. A prognostic index is activity of pepsin recovered from a tracheobronchial aspirate with pepsin recovered by Sephadex gel-filtration, and activity of pepsin is determined by M.P.Chernikov modified Anson and Mirsky's technique by an extinction value: the extinction value of 0.3 to less than 0.8 enables predicting a mild clinical course of the bronchopulmonary pathology; with the extinction value of 0.8 to less than 1.2, a moderate clinical course of the bronchopulmonary pathology is predicted, and the extinction within the range of 1.2 to 1.7 provides predicting a severe clinical course of the bronchopulmonary pathology accompanied by the most manifested fibrosis and the persistent pneumonic process.;EFFECT: invention improves the prediction efficiency of the pattern of the bronchopulmonary pathology with underlying gastroesophageal reflux in newborn infants assisted by artificial pulmonary ventilation, and ensuring the well-timed use of the methods aiming at preventing aspiration of the gastric material that promotes reducing the length of the child's staying in hospital 1,5 times and reducing a risk of the developing chronic bronchopulmonary pathology and future disability.;3 ex
