The present invention relates to a column chromatographic method for preparing carrier-free, high purity 177Lu compounds for medical use. In the method according to the invention, a cation exchanger and a suitable complexing agent are used. With the method according to the invention it is possible for the first time, from 176Yb compounds irradiated with thermal neutrons, wherein the radionuclides 177Lu and 176Yb are present for the purification in a mass ratio of about 1: 102 to 1: 1010, carrier-free, high purity 177Lu compounds in milligrams for pharmaceutical-medical purposes in a highly purified form.
