The presentation device (1) has a transparent switchable display (2) such as organic LED (OLED) display with several independently controllable segments (3) that are changeable to transparent state, an illuminable rear wall (4), and a presentation area (5) formed between the rear wall and the display to receive an object (6). A control unit is adapted to switch the segments of the display during operation of the device to transparent state so that object in the presentation area is visible to an observer through the transparent segment. An independent claim is included for a method for operating the presentation device.
