The method involves applying metallic layers on a solar cell substrate (1) for formation of a rear contact (3) and a power supply line by supplying metalliferous substance using a low temperature plasma i.e. cold active plasma. A rear metallization layer (7) is applied on a rear side (2) of the solar cell substrate, where the rear metallization layer extends from apertures up to the rear side of the solar cell substrate. The rear contact is arranged on the rear side of the solar cell substrate. The metallic layers are applied on one above the other on the rear metallization layer. An independent claim is also included for a solar cell.
