The method involves transferring input colors into output colors that are represented at a color display, where the output colors comprise primary colors and mixed colors. The brightness of the primary color is determined, where the mixed colors are formed by combining the primary colors. A certain gray scale value is assigned to each primary color based on the brightness of the primary color. One of the input colors is altered into the output color for adapting a color display. One of gray scale values is altered based on a mathematical function. An independent claim is also included for a device for adapting a color display in a motor car.
