The method involves providing lighting information to a vehicle-own illumination source. Color balancing is performed on picture information, which is provided by a camera system (104), based on the available lighting information. Color-corrected picture information is provided. The illumination information is comprised of an indication that indicates whether illumination sources (122-130) are currently on or off. The illumination information is comprised of information about intensity and/or color spectrum of the illumination sources. The illumination sources are a headlight (122), a tail light (124), a front fog light, a brake light (126), a blinker (128) and a rear fog light (130).
