The method involves measuring (1) the peripheral speed of the wheel using a vehicle speed sensor. The edge change of the speed signal acquired from speed sensor is evaluated (2), so as to eliminate (3) the periodic deviations of wheel rotation. The recorded values of the wheel rotation are normalized (4) with respect to a constant time base. The acceleration and deceleration components of speed signal are eliminated (5). The recorded value of wheel rotation is compared with a target value to determine (6) the wear or damage of wheel bearing.
