The method involves determining the speed of the vehicle and an expected torque (Tqm) provided by a motor. The expected acceleration (Ae) of the vehicle is calculated on the basis of detected speed (Vf) of the vehicle and the expected torque. The actual acceleration (As) of the vehicle is determined, where a gear shift recommendation is indicated depending on the size difference between the expected acceleration and the actual acceleration. The speed of an output shaft of the motor is detected after the detection of the expected torque. Independent claims are included for the following: (1) a device for displaying a gear change recommendation of a vehicle with a motor; and (2) a computer program stored in a computer-readable unit.
