The method involves considering an elastic deformation of a torque transmission device by a control technology model, and providing a friction clutch (32) in the torque transmission device. The control technology model is provided as an elasto-plastic model. The elastic component and plastic component consider a torque transmitted by the friction clutch. The control technology model has a brush model (60) of the friction clutch. An independent claim is included for a control technology observer for use in a control device of a drive train of a motor vehicle.
