The method involves measuring an inclination of a component at a reference measurement point (14) by a measuring device relative to a horizontal plane (26) such that a spacing (22) is calculated from the measured inclination. The component is designed as a wishbone (6) of an independent suspension (1). The reference measurement point is comprised of two measuring points (15) spaced from each other in a longitudinal direction (28) of the wishbone.
