The bumper (1) has tubular cross elements (3.1-3.4) which are arranged above one another and connected to the deformation portion (2). The wall thickness of the bottom cross element (3.4) is lower than the wall thickness of the other cross elements (3.1-3.3). The wall thickness of cross element (3.4) is corresponded to 0.6 times and not more than 0.9 times of the wall thickness of the cross element (3.1-3.3). The cross elements are made up of steel.
