The warning device includes a movable sliding door (102) arranged at the side of vehicle (101), and a sensor system for detecting a distance (107) of the rear end (105) of vehicle to the object (106) at the front of rear end of vehicle. An evaluation unit generates a warning on the basis of determined distance, if a collision is to occur between the object and door. An output unit outputs an audible warning to an operator of the door, according to the output of evaluation unit. An independent claim is included for a method for warning about collision at rear-end of vehicle.
