The rod (10) has a base material (11) whose different surface coatings (12) are made of non-metal material and plastic material. The base material is made of steel, and the surface coatings are formed as a shrunk heat shrink sleeve, where the rod is partially provided along length of the surface coatings such that a hexagonal section (13) i.e. screw thread, at an end of the rod is not provided with the surface. The surface coatings are arranged adjacent to each other. The heat shrink sleeve has diameter larger than diameter of the rod, and is heated in a heating furnace. An independent claim is also included for a method for manufacturing a guide rod for a linear drive device.
