The engine (1) has a coolant distributor (18), which receives pressurized coolants i.e. lubricants, with coolant pressure that is adjustable on two different values. A coolant duct (17) is branched from the coolant distributor and guided to a coolant consumer (16). A locking unit (19) e.g. switching valve, is attached to the coolant duct and releases a fluid connection through the coolant duct only when reaching or exceeding minimum pressure by the coolant pressure. The locking unit comprises a valve element displaceable and/or resiliently deformable for releasing the fluid connection. An independent claim is also included for a method for operating a combustion engine.
