The device (1) has a processing unit propelled by drive units e.g. electric motors (8-10), and moved along a predetermined processing path for processing a workpiece and attached to the workpiece. The processing unit includes driven rotatable processing disks e.g. grinding disks (2-7), where one of the disks is rotated during machining process for processing the workpiece and moved along the processing path. A movement mechanism forwardly and rearwardly moves the disk relative to the workpiece. A height adjusting unit (19) adjusts distance from the disks to a supporting region. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a processing unit for automated processing of a metallic workpiece (2) a device with a receiving section for releasably mounting a processing disk for a device for processing a workpiece.
