The system has a set of light sources i.e. LEDS (6), oriented in different directions and emitting partial beams that overlap to form a total beam. An image evaluation unit (3), a headlight driver unit (4) and a memory (5) adjust intensities of the partial beams and are connected with a camera (2) for providing an image at a solid angle, where the total beam is emitted at the angle. The camera scans the image for a predetermined pattern i.e. traffic sign. The intensities of the partial beams illuminating a portion of the image are reduced if the pattern is found in the portion of the image. An independent claim is also included for a method for illuminating a space angle by a set of light sources.
