The device (1) has light sources e.g. primary and secondary light sources (3, 5), producing light with respective light spectrums. A control device (7) controls the light sources, where the light is produced with a third light spectrum based on a pattern produced by natural light, by superimposing the light of the light sources. The pattern is stored on a storage (11) of the control device, and a time measuring device generates a timing signal e.g. time of day and/or date corresponding timing signal. The pattern is changed as a function of time of day and/or date. The primary light source comprises an electric lamp, a gas discharge lamp, a metal-vapor lamp, a halogen metal-vapor lamp, a fluorescent lamp and/or an LED. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a method for lighting rooms (2) a software executed on a computing device to perform a method for lighting rooms.
