The method involves supplying reformate gas from a reformer (14) to a fuel cell (2). A desulfurization apparatus (24) is arranged between reformer and fuel cell, to desulfurize reformate gas supplied to fuel cell. The desulfurization apparatus is regenerated by supply of oxygen gas from an oxygen feeding device (20). A desulfurization catalyst converter (25) of desulfurization apparatus is warmed to preset minimum temperature during regeneration operation. An independent claim is included for fuel cell system.
