The method involves generating old and new data types (DT1, DT2) by class generators (KG) from meta models (M1, M2) of old and new program versions. An SQL script (S) to change old database schemas (DS1) and old database entries (DE1), is prepared using a migration engine (ME) from history lists (HL1, HL2) of the program versions. An old database (DB1) is made to migrate to a new database (DB2) using the script for changing the schemas and entries. The old database entries are converted into new database entries (DE2) and/or the old data schemas are converted into new database schemas (DS2). An independent claim is also included for a device for performing a method for model-based software developing of programs with database access.
