The electric propulsion system comprises a first stationary plasma propellant (111A) comprising a first single cathode (140A), a first anode (125A) and a first gas distributor and a second stationary plasma propellant (111B) comprising a second cathode single (140B), a second anode (125B) and a second gas distributor (121B, 141B). The system further comprises a common electrical connection device of the first and second cathodes (140A, 140B), first and second gas flow control devices (180A, 180B), with a common fluid supply device and a device for selectively controlling activation at a given instant of only one of the first and second cathodes (140A, 140B) in cooperation with one of the first and second anodes (125A, 125B).
