The method involves selecting a route between a starting point and a destination point, and determining all the energy states (2) reachable by an electric vehicle at the destination point. One of the possible reachable energy states is selected, and an energy consumption strategy is implemented by a controller along the route to reach the selected energy state, where the energy states are determined depending on the speed of the vehicle, the acceleration of the vehicle, the initial charge state of a battery, and the mapping of an auxiliary thermal engine.
