Inferring repeated journey patterns of a mobile telephone from network data

Determining a common origin, destination and route from a network usage record of a mobile communication device by: determining movement of the device 420 from its network activity 405 (e.g. call, SMS, MMS, data event) and associated attributes 410 (e.g. cell ID) identified in the NUR 400; determining whether the movement is preceded or followed by another movement 425 and, if so, aggregating them so as to form a series of consecutive movements that represents a route 430; comparing the series of movements with historical activity data for the device so as to determine a common set of such series; identifying there-from a common origin, common destination and one or more points there-between that collectively represent a common route 440, 445. Route and OD data from multiple devices may be used for traffic management or planning.
