PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and a device for sorting radioactive waste that correctly distinguishes whether waste to be measured contains α-ray nuclides or not, even in an environment where a count frequency of β-rays or γ-rays is very large or in cases where the waste to be measured contains β-ray nuclides or γ-ray nuclides.;SOLUTION: A first collimator 11 shields α-ray transmission except in a specified space. An electromagnet 12 generates periodic changes in magnetic field intensity. A second collimator 14 passes, in only a specific position, α-ray beams whose direction are periodically changed into an oscillating shape by magnetic field intensity periodically changed by an electromagnet. A radiation detector 15 detects α-rays that have passed through the second collimator. A personal computer 16 functioning as a signal processing unit synchronizes a signal of detected radioactive intensity with a frequency change of the magnetic field intensity to perform its addition. Thus, an α-ray measurement device 10 can measure α-rays. A moving tray 38 is loaded with radioactive waste to be measured and is moved to the position of the α-ray measurement device 10 and a destination for sorting.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2014,JPO&INPIT
