PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a configuration that can obtain higher torque by reliably evenly dividing a combustion chamber or compression chamber in a Wankel rotary engine.SOLUTION: The Wankel rotary engine includes: an ignition device 5 disposed in the vicinity of one constricted part of a housing 1; and a seal device 6 provided in the one constricted part of the housing 1 and driven in a vertical direction to outer peripheral surfaces L1 to L3 of a rotor 2 by a cam 6b and a spring 6c while being synchronized with the rotation of the rotor 2. During the rotation of the rotor 2, the seal device 6 is impressed to the outer peripheral surface of the rotor 2 by the cam 6b to divide the combustion chamber B into P and Q when central parts M1, M2, M3 of respective sides L1, L2, L3 of the rotor 2 are positioned in a part provided with the seal device 6 in a vertical cross section of a rotor main axis 2a.
