PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide FeO nanoparticles by a liquid phase method and to manufacture carbon nanotubes having large outer diameters while promoting growth of the carbon nanotubes.SOLUTION: A method for manufacturing FeO nanoparticles provided by the present invention includes a water removal step (S202) of removing the water content of a solution including iron oxide, an organic acid for dissolving the iron oxide, and a first solvent by elevating the temperature of the solution to a first temperature, a second temperature retention step (S203) of elevating the temperature of the solution from the first temperature to a second temperature and retaining the second temperature, and a particle extraction step (S204) of extracting FeO nanoparticles from the solution prevailing after the second temperature retention step.
