PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a bypass channel type magnetic viscous fluid damper capable of easily attaching and detaching a magnetic body shaft without removing a damping force generating mechanism from a cylinder.;SOLUTION: A damping force generating mechanism 5 of a bypass channel type magnetic viscous fluid damper 1 includes a casing 8, a cylindrical electromagnet assembly 9 on the inside of the casing and a magnetic body shaft 10 which forms a circulation gap 24 on an outer circumference and penetrates the electromagnet assembly 9. The casing 8 is fastened to the outside of a cylinder 2 and has a connection channel 12b communicated with a channel port 2a of magnetic viscous fluid on a bypass holder 12 of one edge side. The magnetic body shaft 10 is fitted and supported by a cover member 14 and a support member 16 of the casing 8. The cover member 14 is freely attached and detached by a bolt 15 and a pivot part 14c of a small diameter is fitted to one edge of the magnetic body shaft 10.
