PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To compress a character image with a high quality and a low capacitance.SOLUTION: A character recognition section 51 performs character recognition on a character image acquired by a character image acquisition section 50, a linear sum image production section 53 acquires from a dictionary DB 58 a plurality of sample images corresponding to the recognized character and produce a linear sum image with the plurality of sample images. Furthermore, a differential image production section 55 produces a differential image between the character image acquired by the character image acquisition section 50 and the linear sum image, and a storage section 56 stores in storage means 30 the linear sum image and the differential image in association with each other.
